The Academy of Decision, Information, and Operations Sciences

In 1971, a group of members from various professional organizations formed Alpha Iota Delta, an international honor society in decision, information and operations sciences. The purposes of the honor society are threefold:

  • to confer distinction to students in the decision sciences and information systems disciplines for academic excellence
  • to promote the infusion of the functional and behavioral areas of business with the tools, concepts, and methodologies of the decision  information and operations sciences
  • to promote interest in the disciplines of decision, information and operations sciences

Alpha Iota Delta expanded its activities by adding certification programs in:

  • Decision Science and Analytics
  • Information Systems and Technology
  • Operations, Supply Chain and Logistics

These certification programs support the professional development of academicians and professionals during their career by documenting and validating life-long learning activities. The purposes of the certification are threefold:

  • to recognize currency in the decision, information and operations sciences disciplines.
  • to promote the life-long learning of the functional and behavioral areas of business with the tools, concepts, and methodologies of the decision, information and operations sciences.
  • to document continuing education in the disciplines of decision, information and operations sciences.
AlphaIotaDelta is a proud member of Association of College Honor Societies

Honor societies represent a rich tradition in the history of higher education. True honor societies exist to recognize and promote excellence in academic accomplishment. Whether individual societies service multiple academic disciplines or only a single, specific academic major, their overall purpose is to encourage and recognize students who have achieved a high level of academic competence and to promote excellence in the academic community.

ACHS is the organization honor societies join when they want their society certified by a neutral body, want to collaborate with other honor societies to promote best practices in recognizing and promoting excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and research, and seek to continually maintain the highest standards by providing annual reports and undergoing regular re-certification.
